The motivation for this project refers to facilitate the reintegration of inmates before their release of prison back into the society by means of an integrated training plan. For this purpose, the project concentrates on four categories; namely:
- Basic skills
- Vocational skills
- Life skills
The category of basic skills includes numerical and literacy skills, while vocational skills are specialized to prepare inmate for the exigencies of the current employment market. Beyond that, to ensure a holistic approach, also ‘life skills’ are integrated in this project to cover the psychosocial aspect of the reintegration process. In detail all categories are defined under the section of the preparation phase.
Project goals
Didactically, the project aspires to fulfill the following goals;
- improve the employability of the prisoners (at the end of the project each participant shall have an proper application map)
- provide a challenging environment which encourages prisoners to take active steps to prepare themselves for their eventual release back into society
- improve the prospects for their successful social resettlement
Cooperation with prison
To realize this project cooperation with a local prison is from utmost essence. Therefore, a co-operation with the Marwei prison in Leeuwarden has been established to implement this project.
